There is no single price for a hair transplant in the UK or Turkey. In both countries the cost depends on how many grafts you need, the technique, who carries out each stage and what the quote covers, so the fairest comparison is made item by item, with the cost of travelling to Istanbul counted as well.

Below you will find what our package in Istanbul includes, a table for setting a UK quote against it, the factors that drive the price, the checks worth making in each country and how to count the cost of travel. You will not find prices here: a figure only means something once your own plan is known.

Why is there no single price for a hair transplant?

A hair transplant is planned around one person’s hair loss and one person’s donor area. Two people with what looks like the same thinning can leave with very different plans: one may need grafts only along the hairline, while the other needs the front, the mid-scalp and possibly the crown, perhaps over more than one session. The price follows the plan, which is why a figure given before anyone has looked at your scalp tells you very little.

In the UK, a hair transplant is a private procedure. The NHS does not carry it out, because it is cosmetic, so you pay the clinic directly. At our clinic in Istanbul, international patients receive a package that brings the medical and the practical parts of the trip together. Neither way of quoting is better or worse in itself. What matters is knowing exactly what each quote covers and what it leaves out.

What does our package in Istanbul include?

For international patients, the package at Dr. Yetkin Bayer Clinics in Ulus, Beşiktaş, covers the following:

Flights are not included, so you book them yourself once your date is confirmed. Rather than a set figure, you receive a written, itemised quote after your photos have been reviewed, so you can see what each part of the plan covers.

A typical programme

Your written plan confirms the exact days, but a typical programme looks like this:

  1. Arrival: you are met at the airport and taken to your hotel.
  2. Procedure day: examination and assessment, pre-operative tests and then the procedure under local anaesthesia. Depending on your plan, the examination may take place on the same day as the procedure or on an earlier day. You return to the hotel the same day.
  3. The following day or two: the first wash and a check at the clinic.
  4. Going home: most people stay two to three nights after the procedure before flying back.

The NHS notes that a hair transplant usually takes a day and that you do not normally need to stay overnight; in Istanbul, you spend the night at your hotel rather than at the clinic. Larger areas, however, may need two or more sessions on different days, and that changes both the programme and the quote.

Hair transplant cost UK vs Turkey: what to compare

The table sets the questions worth asking about a UK quote against what our package in Istanbul includes. It is not a judgement on any clinic: a UK quote may well include many of these items, and the only way to know is to ask.

What to compareTypical UK quote: askOur package in Istanbul

Once both quotes are laid out like this, you are comparing what is included and who does the work, rather than two totals that may describe quite different things.

What drives the price of a hair transplant?

Whichever country you choose, the same factors shape a quote:

Price is only one part of the decision. Your donor area is limited, and grafts used now cannot be used again later. The NHS also points out that hair around a transplanted area can keep thinning, so the design should allow for future hair loss. A plan that takes this into account deserves as much attention as the total at the bottom of the quote.

How can you check a clinic in the UK?

The NHS gives clear pointers for anyone considering a hair transplant in the UK:

The NHS also lists questions to ask any surgeon: what qualifications they have, how many procedures they have carried out and how many had complications, which method they recommend and why, and what follow-up is in place if something goes wrong. These questions apply just as much to a clinic abroad.

How can you check a clinic in Turkey?

Our 12 checks for choosing a hair transplant clinic in Turkey go through these points in more detail, and our guide to having a hair transplant in Turkey describes the process as a whole.

How do you count the cost of travel?

A UK clinic may be a short journey away; Istanbul is a flight. Travel is a real cost, so add it to the Turkey side before you compare:

Timing matters too. If you are thinking of using the Christmas break, our guide to a hair transplant in winter explains how to plan the trip around the first weeks of recovery.

If you would like to see what a plan and an itemised quote would look like in your case, you can send photos of your scalp for an online assessment through our consultation form.

Frequently asked questions

Why do hair transplant quotes in the UK and Turkey differ?

Quotes are built differently: the number of grafts, the method, who performs each stage and what is included all vary. A package in Istanbul also includes practical items such as hotel nights and transfers, so compare quotes item by item rather than by the total.

What is included in a hair transplant package in Istanbul?

Our package for international patients covers consultation and medical examination, pre-operative tests, the procedure, three hotel nights, airport transfers and transport within Istanbul, medication and the first wash. Flights are not included.

Can I have a hair transplant on the NHS?

No. The NHS does not carry out hair transplants because they are cosmetic procedures. In England, private providers must be registered with the CQC, and you can check the surgeon’s GMC registration and BAHRS membership.

How long do I need to stay in Istanbul?

Most people stay two to three nights after the procedure, which leaves time for the first wash at the clinic. Your written plan confirms the exact dates.

How do I get a quote?

Send clear photos of your scalp for an online assessment. Once they have been reviewed, you receive a written, itemised quote.
